The study area is located on the eastern side of the Alba Carolina Citadel, next to the existing sporting facilities. The surface of the future Skate Park is situated outside of the citadel crownwork “ St. Elisabeth”, but the Detail Urban Project also contains proposals for the interior spaces within the crownwork, which connect the skate park with the citadel ditches, spaces that will be rehabilitated and reopened to the public.

The main objective of this project is to show the current situation of the area and to give a set of regulations that will allow the building of a skate park and other sports services with public acces.

Thus, the project aims to satisfy the present needs of the young population regarding well-designed and safe extreme sporting facilities.

The regulations and design of the future skate park are taking into consideration the proximity to the Alba Carolina Citadel and fortifications, which are listed historical monuments.

The insertion of attractive activities for the young (and not only) population within the Citadel will generate its functional “reactivation” and urban renewal and will promote the existing build heritage values to a wider range of population.

The proposed Skate park is functionally compatible with the surrounding activities (tennis courts, football field)

This future development will host the people who practice extreme sports (skateboard, BMX, roller skates etc.) and is a necessary investment that will create a safe and contemporary-designed environment destined for the practice of these sports.

The east side of the plot will be occupied by seating areas for spectators, from where you can see the whole skate platform without affecting the sporting activities.

We also propose the rehabilitation and opening of the interior spaces within the St. Elisabeth crownwork. These spaces will house administration facilities and public restrooms for the sporting activities that have started to expand across the eastern side of the Citadel.

The implementation of this project will have the immediate effect of satisfying the needs of the people who practice this type of extreme sport, and who currently have no space that allows them to practice in a pleasant and safe environment.

Also, by building this skate park, a new category of users will be drawn into the Citadel, activating and populating the area throughout the day.

The opportunity of organizing future themed sporting competitions will add value to the area and to the city of Alba Iulia, being a good way to promote the city at a regional and national level.
